Uncertain Times

Arkansas Valley Series - #2

A Brief Description:

Uncertain Times

With their harrowing journey across the Great Plains finally behind them, Sam and Judith begin building and defending The Bartlett in the midst of the Comanche lands of southeastern Colorado.

Through hard work and steadfast determination, the ranch becomes a reality and begins to flourish while they raise their son, Tom, to manhood. Along the way, he meets the love of his life, Sue Hobbs.

Their rewards are all they had hoped for as the Bartletts establish a successful horse ranching endeavor that is destined to someday become one that will prove instrumental in settling the savage lands of not only the Arkansas Valley, but also the entire southwestern United States.

However, none of this comes without costs as along the way Tom loses a number of the things that are dear to him, including his faith in the Lord.

5 out of 5 stars: THE BEST

I think this western series is the best! I love how the author wrote the language as it was spoken in those times. It gives such authenticity to the story. The characters are so real! I cried when Jay died. I love how the characters grew from book one to two. Poor Tom...it was tough to go through his struggles with him. The author has an amazing way with words to paint very vivid pictures. I love the detail in the story. I honestly can't wait to buy and read book no. 3

4 out of 5 stars: To uncertain about it all.

This was a good book. Each one of the characters was portrayed well. I really didn't like the fast pace of how the years went by in the book. It seems like the author was trying to hurry you through the book. I was happy that Tom found somebody to love even though it was hard to at times. I was hoping that Lucky and Sam would have married after Judith was killed but they didn't. Maybe she and Ike will come to an understanding. So maybe onto to the next one.

5 out of 5 stars: Westerns

By Stevo - on June 17, 2014

This, the second in a series, I found to be as entertaining as the first. The unfolding saga of family settlers seemed to be realistic and without some of the questionable aspects of other books of the Western genre.
The adventures of the various families included the 'bad' with the 'good' as life's tribulations affected the various families involved, including several relevant tragedies as well as times of hope and joy. Thoroughly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars: Uncertain Times (Arkansas Valley #2)

I read the first book in this Arkansas Valley series and fell in love with Sam and Jay. I had to get this second book to follow their lives with their young son Tom. In this book Tom grows into a fine young man with all the values instilled in him by his parents. He meets his solemate, Sue Hobbs and their relationship grows. It is a good read and has a blend of happiness and sadness as the first book did. I recommend this series.

I throughly enjoyed the protrail of life in our by-gone era. Life was hard, but simple. Enjoyment was a state of mind, not your economic status. I loved the vivid pictures painted by the author. Would highly recommend this to all who sometimes yearn for time and space to relax!

5 out of 5 stars: Even Better Than Book One.

The servant mother substitute was one of my favorite characters. Indian danger built suspense in many places. Great description makes the story more alive. I want to start the next book, but it is midnight. This has been another SUPER KINDLE discovery.
