Stanton

A Brief Description:

After the loss of his beloved wife of six years to an ailment the doc said was "consumption," James Stanton finds himself torn between the memory of her and the guilt-ridden turmoil inside him that prevents him from committing to another woman.

Waylaid, robbed and beaten by Coyote Bill Patterson and his ruthless band of thugs, Stanton struggles to survive his injuries and the hardships of the Uncompahgre Plateau while he does his best to make it back to Horsefly Bench and his outfit, the Swinging S.

Badly injured and weak with fever, he is unable to go any farther. Barely clinging to life, he is found and nursed back to health by the recently-widowed, Stacey Cox. It is shortly after that when his world begins to turn upside-down once he realizes that he is experiencing feelings for her, feelings that are romantic in nature and in direct conflict with the memory of his beloved Ella.

Unwilling to readily give in to what is in his heart that threatens to forever erase Ella’s memory, he becomes embroiled in exacting justice on Coyote Bill and his henchmen for not only the way he’d been beaten and left for dead, but for the outright murder of Stacey’s husband, as well.

A Few Reader Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars: Stanton

An enjoyable book. Love all the information about what the plains and mountains were like in those days. I found a different perspective on the Indians of those times as well. It brought to light that our own nation could one day face the same out powered and out populated forces changing our world as we have it today and wondering how we would react as a nation. r.
William Rogers seems to understand the struggle of those times for settlers and Indians, as well, who were losing their way of living as the South did when the North conquered it at the end of the Civil War.

5 out of 5 stars: Great book with outstanding characters...

James Stanton lost his wife Ella to consumption after a six year marriage. It's really difficult for him but he's concentrating on running his Swinging S Ranch in Colorado Territory. On his way back from selling a small herd of cattle James is attacked by four disreputable hombres. He is beaten and left for dead. These four, Coyote Bill Patterson, Juan Delgado, Comanche Tommy & Ty Hardin have been in the area for quite some time stealing cattle, rebranding them & selling them in the surrounding towns. When they find that James has $800 on him from the sale of his cattle they feel it's their lucky day.
Stumbling along trying to make it back to a ranch he knows is near, James is found by Stacey Cox. Stacey has recently lost her husband Frank & finds that these same four are responsible for killing him. She is trying to keep her ranch together & along with her son Jimmy they will doctor James as best they can in the hopes he won't die.
This is a story of a growing love between two people who have very much in common. I highly recommend this really good book. You will not be disappointed if you like a good western where the good guys, along with some unlikely help from some strange occurrences, bring the bad guys to their just desserts.

5 out of 5 stars: This is a very enjoyable story.

This is a wonderful faith based story of a man who has previously lost the wife he deeply loved, is severely beaten by four hard cases robbed, and left for dead while returning from a cattle drive. After desperately struggling to reach help, he collapses. He awakens to find himself in a bed all bandaged up not knowing how he got there. What he doesn't know is that the beautiful woman that has taken him in is a widow. The rancher, the widow and her son go through some very trying times together. This is a well written story that keeps you interested as to what happens next. Read it, I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I have.

4 out of 5 stars: The Bear Facts

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is a clean western adventure with a love story intermingled all the way through it. I have come to enjoy Mr. Rogers' books. The reason I gave this book such a high rating was because the writing was superb. It's the story of a hard luck rancher who gets waylaid by a gang of cut throats and loses his cattle money and almost his life. He manages to escape but at a great cost to him physically. He is found by a beautiful widow lady who heals him but needs his help. I hope you enjoy the book. I did.
