Shattered Dreams

Arkansas Valley Series - #3

A Brief Description:

With Tom and Sue now married, much of their focus in on building a loving relationship.

The ranch continues to flourish while the railroad draws ever closer to becoming a reality in the valley.

However, things are not as they seem as a local money hungry banker, Arthur Rhodes, unfolds a devious plan to run folks out and buy up the AT&SF's future right of way.

After The Bartlett is infiltrated by two of Rhodes' henchmen, the ranch's daily routine is turned upside down as its wranglers find themselves forced to deal with not only lies and trickery, but also Tall Bear's band of murderous, marauding Comanche warriors who have been supplied with Spencer rifles.

When Tom finally gets wind of who is behind all the trouble, it's too late for him to put a stop to it. All that remains is his undying love for and trust in the Lord Jesus.

A Few Reader Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars: Arkansas Valley Series

By Amazon Customer - on March 3, 2013

I have read the complete series and loved every page. To read one book and not the others is to miss out on an important part of the story. Life is a finely woven tapestry, and this story tells the story of the weaving of one family's life. The references to seeking God's direction and protection is heart-warming. Everyone must find the truth of God's promises by themselves, just as we all must. The old west is a wonderful theme for the setting and makes us long for the open range, but not for the realities of life on a ranch in the 1800's. Many memorable characters and events to carry the reader along from one adventure to the next. Before you know it, you too will have read the entire series.

5 out of 5 stars: Great continuation of the Arkansas Valley Series or a good read on it's own.

The book is very good as have the others in the series that I have read. It is refreshing to read a good western with clean language that is suitable for most people. Violence does occur as it did during that historical period of time when the old west was being settled.

The writer did an excellent job using period facts with the fiction. The characters are of the love/hate type depending on your
point of view of that. He did a good job of being consistent with the other books in the series.

i am looking forward to reading more about the ranch and the raising of horses.

4 out of 5 stars: WONDERFUL

I am buying a book in this series each month but it is becoming increasingly difficult to wait for the time to pass to buy the next one! Like all the previous books in this series, the characters are strong and the plot interesting. The end left me hanging of course....so can't wait to read the next one. Once again I have to comment on the original language used that is so applicable to the time and setting these stories are set in. It gives such an authentic feel to the story and huge credibility. LOVE IT!

I have been following the trials and tribulations of the Barlett family since the first book in the series as they try to establish their homestead in Indian country. This third book did not disappoint me, as you followed Tom and Sue in their long-time relationship finally get married and try to capture their commitment to each other. If you are a fan of old west settlement stories, try this series.

This book , " like the second & the first" " of the Arkansas Valley series" is a wonderful, wonderful, read. I would highly recommend the whole Arkansas Valley series to everyone who wants a good book full of excitement, mystery, and action and a lot of " lifting up the name of JESUS"' . It's as rough and rugged as they come but still clean. I thank the Lord for writers like r.William Rogers.

All of the Arkansas Valley series is a good Christian based book and is historic which makes it a very book series. I would recommend this series to anyone that likes early American frontier based books and good clean reading. The ending left you wanting more information which makes it a must to get the next book in the series.

5 out of 5 stars: Western series with good adventure and romance

By Paul Franz - on January 31, 2013

This novel is like this series that follows multiple generations as they settle the Arkansas Valley. It is well written and has a good mixture of western action and romance. This novel centers on the time that an evil banker incited the indians to attack ranches to try and get them to sell out cheap.
